Reeling in Success: Fishing, Product Design, and Marketing

For the past three years, we have had the pleasure of working with Catania Product Development as their marketing team, creating promotional videos, blogs, vlogs, press releases, and newsletters. Recently, we collaborated on one of their newest products, the Reel Defender, to launch a PR campaign and build awareness around the product. This email serves as a case study of that product release and campaign.


You may not think about it often, but product design touches nearly every aspect of daily life. From the coffee cup you grab in the morning to the car you drive and the computer you’re reading this on, product design is everywhere. For inventors, a good product design company is a vital partner that turns ideas into marketable products. For Randy Truitt, this was especially true. After envisioning a way to enhance the sport of fishing, he teamed up with Catania to bring his idea to life, resulting in the creation of the Reel Defender.




After over 18 months of collaboration that began with consulting meetings, rough designs, 3D printing, and multiple iterations, the team at Catania was ready to share their work with the world. Working alongside their marketing partner, Endless Media, Sarah Leventi (PR Specialist) and Barry Walton (Video Marketing and Creative Director) teamed up to create a PR campaign that included a press release, a social media surge, video and photo assets, and strategic distribution.


In the weeks following the campaign's execution, our press release was featured in Florida Sportsman Fisherman (social media), Space Coast Daily, Brevard Business News, and Florida Today. This exposure helped Randy and his team reach hundreds of thousands of potential consumers, elevate the brand, and move closer to mass-producing the product for the boating industry.



In addition to our PR campaign for digital and print, we also worked with the team to go out on a boat for the day and capture the Reel Defender in action. Working with Randy (Reel Defender, Owner), Ray Catania (Co-Founder & CTO, Catania Product Development) and his team we captured the story of Reel Defender and the product's functionality. We are proud to help elevate the product and the brand and showcase what the product can do.
